ABSTRACT
Melbourne Storm defeated Penrith Panthers by a margin 42-16 during their rugby football match at Olympic Park stadium. Storm winger-cum-goal kicking five-eighth Matt Geyer sat in the corner of the Melbourne dressing shed grinning like a Cheshire cat. With Geyer and Matt Oxford controlling things beautifully in the center, the Storm's rookie backline cut loose. Fullback Billy Slater, who is fast emerging as a star of the future, bagged a double, as did explosive winger Semi Tadulala. Center Jake Webster, who was born in the Melbourne suburb of Moonee Ponds, also made a strong debut at center. While the Storm was good, the Panthers were decidedly poor. Defensively they were flimsy and they failed to control the ball in attack.
