The article discusses the most significant changes in literacy education since 1995 involving the understanding of literacy as literacies or multiliteracies. The significance of the introduction of the Australian Curriculum on understandings of contemporary literacies and provision of the scaffold for teachers and schools to embrace literacies is tackled. The popularity of commercial phonics programs and literacy coaching is also outlined.
