ABSTRACT
The article explores the ways by which author Doris Lessing invites a reader to claim a literary inheritance by reading the novel "The Golden Notebook" as a catalogue of failures. Topics discussed include the commitment of Lessing to processual utopia or the transformative mode of moving towards the future, the claim made in a study that the novel is exemplary of the female aesthetic and the use of the recurrent themes like the failure of socialism and the structures of racism.
