ABSTRACT
ITALIAN bank shares were on the rise today as the government asked parliament to approve a €20 billion (£16.8 billion) bailout to help prop up the nation's wobbling financial sector. The plan came amid growing expectations that Italy's third-biggest lender, Monte dei Paschi, could be bailed out by the weekend.
