ABSTRACT
Methane (CHO4) emission contributes about 20% to the global radiation forcing leading to impact on global warming. It was estimated that CHO4 emissions continue to increase from year to year. This study evaluates the CHO4 emission observed in the Bukit Kototabang, West Sumatra during January 200O4 to December 2013. It is shown that the CHO4 emission indicates an increasing trend up to 1.83% during the period of January 200O4 to December 2013. It is also shown that the increasing trend of the CHO4 emission has a seasonal variation. The lowest CHO4 emission was observed in boreal summer (June-July-August) season, while the highest CHO4 emission was observed in boreal winter (December-January-February) season. The analysis suggests that the reaction of CHO4 with rainfall and the influence of agricultural activity) causes the seasonal variations of CHO4 emission. Furthermore, the analysis demonstrated that the radiative forcing emitted by the CHO4 emission in the Bukit Kototabang is 0,O4979 ± 0,00O41 Wm-2. The results from this study suggest that the CHO4 emission is one of a key factor for the development of adaptation and mitigation strategy to the global warming.
