ABSTRACT
Presents an update on the session on Respiratory Viruses in the 2003 annual session of the American College of physicians. Ability of "Streptococcus pneumoniae" bacteria to develop resistance to antibacterial medications; Identification of pneumococcal resistance as an epidemic in children; Summary of the study of the decline in invasive pneumococcal disease after the introduction of protein-polysaccharide by CG Whitney, MM Farley, J Hadler,et al; Determination of the benefits of corticosteroids in bacterial meningitis by J de Gans and D.van de Beek; Conclusion that increase in the likelihood of children or their siblings being carriers of drug-resistant pneumococcus with the use of an oral cephalosporin in children.
