ABSTRACT
At a recent education sub committee meeting it was agreed that it is now no longer a pre-requisite of the Institute of Management Services (IMS) Diploma to possess the IMS Certificate. Therefore, if the students wish so, they can begin their professional training with the diploma leaving the certificate out altogether. This article focuses on the nature and intention of the project management units in the wake of this new route offered for the students to continue their education and qualification. The incoming diploma is identified as involving two stages. The information on stage one can be obtained from one's local college. Stage two involves the practice of management services and this has more than one mode of study. Students may choose the approach that best suits them from the three study options. Either through a dedicated course offered by an approved center, through an approved center using local tutor support and the IMS Project Management study pack or through direct registration for a distance learning programme and use of individual monitors to guide the studies. It further gives the details of project management outline syllabus. The syllabus consists of three modules PM1--Select, Plan & Control Projects, PM2--Evaluate, Develop, Implement and Monitor New Methods and PM3-- Prepare and Present Reports.
