Pay rises stable at 3.4% for managers

Pay rises for managers averaged 3.4% over the last 12 months according to the latest management salary survey published by the Reward Group. The survey, which covers almost 900 organisations throughout Great Britain, with a combined workforce of over 1 million staff, shows pay increases remained unchanged over the last 12 months. In September 1996, pay rises also averaged 3.4 percent. The lack of rise in pay settlements over the last 12 months emphasises the stability of pay rises since 1993, which has been unheard of since the 1960s. Managers in the North West received the highest pay settlements on average of 3.8% closely followed by London, England at 3.7% and North East England and South East together on 3.4%. The lowest rises were received in Northern Ireland at 3% and were only slightly higher at 3.1% in the South West and Eastern Counties. Typical pay levels in the regions managers working in London have median earnings around 18% higher than the national average, while in the South East pay is around 4% above the average, as it is in Scotland.
