ABSTRACT
It will be the world's largest onshore wind farm, pumping out some 400 megawatts of electricity, provided the developer can jump through the final hoops. Houston, Texas-based Zilkha Renewable Energy LLC is completing plans to erect up to 267 wind turbines, each measuring 405 feet in height, on farmland in Arrowsmith, Illinois. The wind farm will spread across 22,000 acres, but it will remove only 150 to 200 acres of farmland from agricultural production. The company is in preliminary discussions with a few utilities and will intensify those talks this year, said Bob Crowell, director of business development for Zilkha Renewable Energy.
