ABSTRACT
Auditing standards require auditors adequately to plan audit engagements and properly to supervise assistants. Technically, Critical Path Method (CPM) and Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) are limited because they are based on network modeling that may not be capable of representing an actual system. As a result of these limitations, the audit time estimated by the CPM and PERT methods may portray a misleading picture of the actual time required to complete the auditing process. Thus the purpose of this paper is to use the Graphical Evaluation and Review Technique simulation as an alternative tool for estimating audit time and, consequently, for audit planning and control.
