ABSTRACT
The article offers a look at the English language. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the English language contains between 250,000 and 750,000 words. The number depends on whether you count different meanings of the same word as separate words and on how many obscure technical terms you count. The English language has borrowed many words from different languages. English is always changing as new words are born and old ones die out. Many new words come from the field of electronics and computers, from the media, or from slang. Idioms are phrases that mean more than their words put together.
