ABSTRACT
This article evaluates the DVD Studio Pro 3.0 authoring software from Apple Computer. The version provides design options for DVD developers, and adds features that reduce DVD development time. DVD Studio Pro 3 allegedly builds on the strengths of version 2, while version 3 brings a variety of improvements that add up to an appealing upgrade. Both further strengthen DVD Studio Pro's position as the best value in professional DVD-authoring software. Like version 2, DVD Studio Pro 3 lets one work in any of three operating modes, namely Basic, Extended or Advanced, depending on one's skill level and the complexity of the project. In Basic mode, DVD Studio Pro 3 is similar to Apple's iDVD, and that one can use many of the drag-and-drop techniques to create DVD, but one has more control over video compression, menu designs, and menu navigation. In Extended and Advanced modes, one can take advantage of features that DVD-Video technology allows, such as subtitles, alternative video angles, audio tracks, and advanced navigation schemes, among others. Like version 2, DVD Studio Pro 3 demands a fast-functioning Mac computer and a big screen. One change in DVD Studio Pro's interface is a new graphical view, which depicts the navigation structure of one's DVD.
