ABSTRACT
The article presents an analysis of complex cases in "Materials for the Dictionary of Old Russian," created by I. Sreznevsky, indicated by a question mark. The author describes the decisions taken to identify unknown information in the 29th issue of the "Dictionary of Russian language 11-17th centuries". Restored gaps help historians of language, lexicographers to use wisely dictionary articles in research, and critically evaluate the achievements of the past. The article demonstrates the practical application of modern methods of linguistic analysis in controversial issues solving in the field of theory and practice of lexicography.
