Colander Publications has issued its first Test Ratios Analyses Charts Report, which offers key financial and underwriting information on all Canadian, British and foreign property/casualty insurers federally licensed in Canada. The report is designed to serve as a basis upon which further information should be sought whenever questionable figures or results appear. It contains 10 exhibits. The first eight are early warning solvency tests. When a company falls within the recommended range, an asterisk appears, and the total number of asterisks are indicated for each company. With depressed rates, huge underwriting losses and soft markets, risk managers have begun questioning just how solid is the solvency of insurers who provide them with multimillion dollars' worth of protection. This report brings a new dimension to helping them explore the most critical area of their risk transfer procedures. The report will be updated annually when statistics become available through the Federal Department of Insurance and the I.P. Sharp Association Ltd. data bank.
