ABSTRACT
This article presents information about theater in Connecticut. The Yale Repertory Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut, leads off with two winners. Both Sarah Ruhl's play "The Clean House" and Rolin Jones' play "The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow" give the gate to conformity in amusing, touching, and surprising ways that incorporate elements of fantasy and magic realism. In "The Clean House," the funny-sad Zilah Mendoza is the balance between romantic idealism and stifling urbanity, leading to the triumph of inner untidiness over outward spotlessness. Even more successful is Jenny Chow, in which actress Seema Sueko, a brilliant young woman who suffers from agoraphobia, decides to find her Chinese birth mother.
