ABSTRACT
The article reports that male and female students at Bahrain University will soon be studying in separate facilities if Members of Parliament backing a controversial new bill get their way. Students at the university in Bahrain have been demonstrating against the proposals which require gender segregation on campus. The segregation bill was opposed by Education Minister Majid Al Nuami, but was passed by a majority in the Chamber of Deputies, Bahrain's reconstituted Parliament, which held its first meeting in 2002 after being dissolved in the 1970s.
