ABSTRACT
The article explains why new gun laws will not work in the U.S. Following the Columbine High School massacre committed by students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, President Bill Clinton proposed new gun regulations. Aside from requiring guns to have safety locks, the new proposals require three-day waiting periods before guns could be purchases and would hold adults criminally liable for allowing minors access to guns. These proposals ignore the fact that out of five school-related shootings in the 1997-98 school year, two incidents have been stopped using guns. It also ignores the fact there are already laws in existence which make the bringing of guns to school and gun possession illegal.
