ABSTRACT
The article considers the reduction of legal immigration as a prerequisite in preventing illegal immigration in the U.S. Although most people engaged in the immigration debate claim that controlling illegal immigration is necessary in upholding legal immigration, they fail to consider the fact the legal and illegal immigration belong to the same process. Statistics show that both legal and illegal immigration increased in the U.S. since 1970s. However, it is not a coincidence that both legal and illegal have increased at the same time. It has been observed that legal immigrants provide the housing and employment of illegal immigrants. More often than not, both legal and illegal immigrants live in the same house.
