ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the silk swallowtail flag that was created for the Third Texas Volunteer Cavalry in 1858. This flag may have been the first regimental color of Third Texas. This flag resides with the Smith County Historical Society in Tyler, Texas. Sources say that the yellow portions of the flag were originally gold-colored. The flag exhibits a cream color in place of white as well as a light gray color to the pink area. This flag is the only known flag that honors the Masonic organization Knight of the Golden Circle.
