ABSTRACT
The article reports that the U.S. Congress and the Federal Trade Commission made a move to keep a close watch on infomercials in 1992. Infomercials sometimes resemble real special newscasts and other formats that do not identify the segment as an advertisement only or those that sell products whose claims are unfounded. This prompted Representative Norman Sisisky (D-Va.) to hold Congressional hearings which eventually paved the way to the creation of the National Infomercial Marketing Association.
