ABSTRACT
The article reports on the resumption of the primary elections for the Fatah Movement in Gaza announced by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on November 30, 2005. Abbas suspended the election due to the outbreak of violence and allegations of fraud. Based on the results of first stage of elections held in the West Bank on November 26, Fatah politician Marwan Barghouti received 34, 000 votes. The elections marked the first time that Fatah candidates are being elected rather than appointed by leaders of the party.
