ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the socio-economic and political conditions in Afghanistan. The population of Afghanistan is 29,928,987 and population density is 120 per square meter. The ethnic groups include Pashtun 44%, Tajik 25%, Hazara 10%, and Uzbek 8%. Afghanistan is an Islamic republic. The head of state and government is the president, Hamid Karzai. The major industries that drive the economy include textiles, soap, furniture, and shoes. Chief crops include wheat, fruits, nuts, and wool. The gross domestic product growth in 2003 was 7.5%.
