The article presents information on the energy industry in Latvia. Hydropower, peat and wood are the most significant local energy resources of Latvia. The Energy Law is tasked with increasing competition in the sector and also addressing pricing and tariffs, third-party access, emergency planning, conservation and environmental protection. The country adopted an Energy Development Plan in 1994 to reduce dependence on energy imports and to achieve 85% energy self-sufficiency. It discusses the energy consumption in the country.
