ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the recycling of plastics in Brazil. According to a report, as a result of major recycling advances in Brazil in the recovery of plastics the country is next only to Germany as far as recycling of plastics is concerned. The recycled plastic is transformed into granules for manufacture of new products. According to a recent study the plastics recycling industry in Brazil is composed of about 490 businesses and 80 percent of it is concentrated in the southeastern region. This industry has total sales of R$ 1.22 billion annually and generates 11,500 direct jobs. The recycling companies have the capacity to recycle 1.05 million metric tons per year, consuming 777,000 tons of materials and producing 703,000 tons of recycled plastics.
