ABSTRACT
The article explains that the Endangered Species Act can only achieve its potential when the public demands its enforcement from the federal government. The ESA was signed into law by U.S. President Richard Nixon on December 19, 1973. The law was unanimously approved by the members of the Senate after the House passed it by a vote of 355 to 4. Congress last reauthorized ESA in 1988. The law has achieved several points in preserving endangered species such as the foxes, bald eagles and grizzly bears. Yet the law is under threat from the administration of President George W. Bush.
