ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the Israeli reaction to the Hamas victory in the Palestinian parliamentary elections. Acting Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert prepares to launch the election campaign of his centrist party, Kadima. Olmert cites as one of Israel's central challenges defining the borders of Israel as a state with a clear and solid Jewish majority. But Hamas has ended the hopes for a negotiated peace with the Palestinians.
