ABSTRACT
The article looks at United States President George W. Bush's coming energy budget and questions whether ethanol will really be given more funding. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory, which is home to research that might make ethanol cheaper, was preparing to cut jobs and end contracts when Bush, in his State of the Union Address, spoke about increasing use of ethanol in the United States. Bush's budget in the previous year fell short of needed laboratory funding and Congress used part of the laboratory's budget for unrelated projects.
