ABSTRACT
The article discusses several of the author's poems that deal with the war in Iraq that began in 2003. Three of the poems were written on the first days of the war and were read at a peace rally on March 29, 2003. Three were written two days after the rally and read in a faculty meeting. One poem was written in the wake of the murder of three cooks at a favorite tavern in Brookland, Washington, D.C. Both the Brookland murders and the war in Iraq happened within the penitential season of Lent. The author, a professor at a divinity school, wrote another poem in that context.
