ABSTRACT
The article comments on the effect of the Three Mile Island nuclear accident in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on the hearings held in Gorleben, Germany on March 28, 1979 regarding the plan to build the world's biggest civil nuclear installation. The Three Mile Island nuclear accident was a setback to the Gorleben hearings, given the vast number of civilians who protested against the proposed German nuclear facility. Furthermore, the accident proved that the opposition to nuclear power is founded on solid evidence, and that the oppositors are intelligent and well-informed people.
