ABSTRACT
The article presents information on immigration in the U.S. in 2006. The U.S. has always attracted large numbers of immigrants, often driven by economic and political events at home and abroad. Large expansions are usually followed by restrictions and retrenchment. U.S. laws have often led to unanticipated changes in the nature and composition of immigration flows. The article continues to discuss the evolution of immigration and details laws such as the Naturalization Act of 1790.
