ABSTRACT
The article reports on the innovative designs of buildings that uses renewable energy. It discusses the North Exelon Pavilions located in Chicago wherein its exterior comprises with photovoltaic panels that generates electricity for the building's energy use. The pavilions are part of the city's project to become one of the most environmentally friendly cities in the country that uses solar photovoltaic technology. The pavilions used custom designed photovoltaic panels, curtain wall system and others that maximized the use of daylight, lighting systems and controls that resulted to minimal energy. Moreover, the pavilions have been awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver rating from United States Green Building Council.
