The author recounts his experience attending the 2006 Griffin Prize ceremonies in Canada. Several poets who were shortlisted for the event read their poems on stage. Barbadian poet Edward Kamau Brathwaite in memory of his wife's son who was run over on his bicycle in the outskirts of Kingston, Jamaica. He ran into last year's judge Simon Armitage who is scheduled to give the after dinner speech the following night.
