ABSTRACT
The article provides information on the nuclear cycle of uranium mining and milling at the open-pit facility of Kennecott Energy Co. in Rawlins, Wyoming. The cycle begins on the shipment of uranium ore from the traditional open-pit or underground mines to a radioactive mill to be processed into uranium oxide and is then sent to a conversion facility in Illinois, where it is converted to uranium hexafluoride. It is then shipped to an enrichment plant, where the amount of uranium-235 isotopes are enriched and processed into ceramic fuel pellets, which are then loaded into fuel rods and combined into fuel assemblies to be used as nuclear reactors that are used to generate electricity in the U.S.
