ABSTRACT
The article reports on the conflict between Israel, the Palestinian Hamas organization and Lebanese Shiite Hizbollah forces. Hamas militants crossed into Israeli territory and attacked Israeli forces, killing two soldiers, wounding four, and capturing one. Israel responded by launching a massive operation in the Gaza Strip, destroying Hamas offices and arresting elected Hamas officials. In a progression of violence and reprisals, the Hamas launched rocket attacks against an Israeli city. In the north, Hizbollah operatives attacked Israeli forces, killing three soldiers and capturing two.
