ABSTRACT
The article reports on the different initiators of carbon offset projects. AES, which is a global power company for an agroforestry scheme is considered one of the first institutions that implemented carbon offsetting projects. However, it was the Kyoto agreement that made the carbon offsetting project part of the discourse. The Kyoto has introduced three elements to carbon offsetting. The market of offsetting has grown rapidly and trading was worth over $10 billion in 2005. By the end of 2006, analysts predict that the trading will be worth $30 billion.
