ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the issue of single-sex schooling in the United States. The U.S. Department of Education has issued regulations stating that it is legal to separate students by gender. The regulations are based on Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, which prohibit sex discrimination in education. Goals such as meeting the needs of students, providing diverse educational opportunities and improving student achievement are mentioned. Rules of the regulations are outlined.
