ABSTRACT
The article talks about the interest of the U.S. Department of Defense in the 1965 epic film The Battle of Algiers by Italian director Gillo Pontecorvo. Set in the narrow streets of Algiers' casbah, the film chillingly depicts the terror tactics of Algerian resistance fighters, women dressed in Western clothes plant bombs in café s and the French forces' use of systematic torture to crush the uprising.
