ABSTRACT
This article discusses U.S. federal funding of abstinence-only sex education programs. There are good reasons to doubt the effectiveness of the approach, as little evidence exists that it reduces teen pregnancy. Many of the funds are funneled to religious groups that attempt to proselytize. The Department of Health and Human Services found that over 80% of the sex education curricula contained false, misleading, or distorted information. INSET: Given the Evidence.
