ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the challenges before social studies teachers while addressing the issues of intelligent design, evolution and religion in their classes in the U.S. There is increasing debate over the role of religion in the history and society. The state of Georgia has approved the Judeo-Christian Bible as a source of history in public schools. One of the chief astronomer of Vatican said that the intelligent design in schools is taught when religion or history is taught. However, a professor of biology at Harvard University, Stephen Jay Gold told that both, science and religion are different things and both should be valued. He told that the science provides facts and theories while religion is a source of moral value and ethics.
