ABSTRACT
One of the particular features of accession ceremonies in the Ottoman Empire was the exchange of presents. The new sultan gives the presents, and in return some of the members of his inner circle submit culusiyyes in addition to other presents. In these poems the writers usually depict the current status of the empire and the expectations of the new sultan. In this context, culussiyyes collected by Enderunlu Arif has particular importance owing to the fact that the reign of Sultan Selim III was one of the most troublesome periods of the empire. In this paper I tried to analyze the culusiyyes written in praise of Sultan Selim III and later collected by Enderunlu Arif.
