The article presents information on the Digital Humanities Initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The author states that the initiative began last year with the inauguration of the National Digital Newspaper Program, which is creating a free searchable online database of historically significant newspapers published between 1836 and 1922 from all the states and U.S. territories. The Library of Congress will host and maintain the newspaper database.
