ABSTRACT
The article reports on the adolescent childbearing and its prevention. Adolescent childbearing has significant impact on programs for American welfare. There are programs that focuses on the teenage mother such as the Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC). Moreover, adolescent childbearing is considered an important component of welfare dependency due to its negative implications for health and social well-being. The welfare costs of adolescent childbearing could also be reduced by the prevention of childbirth through sex education and contraceptive use and by helping teenage mothers find employment.
