ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the power uprates made by nuclear power plants in the U.S. It notes that the increasing fossil fuel prices and awareness for greenhouses gases made nuclear energy more appreciated. The first power uprate was made in September 1977 by Baltimore Gas and Electric to increase its output by 5.5 percent. Uprates can augment power output between 0.4% to 20% and need the approval of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
