ABSTRACT
The article discusses a federally mandated study showing that four sexual-abstinence education programs were ineffective in changing the sexual behavior of teenagers. The study is likely to play a role as lawmakers in the United States prepare to decide whether to renew funding for abstinence education. The study was conducted by Mathematica Policy Research Inc., of Princeton, N.J. The views of opponents and supporters of abstinence-only sex education programs are discussed.
