ABSTRACT
The article summarizes information surrounding hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and discusses the recent progress in the role of this procedure as far as treating malignant and nonmalignant conditions. The primary use for hematopoietic stem cell transplantations are hematologic and lymphoid cancers, as well as many other health risks. Hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation was originally used as a treatment for irradiation injuries and then cancer. Hematopoietic stem cells are found in bone marrow.
