ABSTRACT
The article explores the benefits and drawbacks of building the proposed liquid natural gas (LNG) terminals along the lower Columbia River and in Coos Bay in Oregon. Concerns raised against LNG include risk of a fire from a ruptured LNG tanker ship and possible impact of the security zones around ships on shipping and business on the Columbia River. Benefits of LNG terminals include creation of additional jobs, steady supply, and lower port-to-consumer costs.
