ABSTRACT
The article examines the mechanism of action, therapeutic uses, adverse effects and drug interactions of the ingredients most commonly found in energy drinks and their effect on the health of children and adolescents. The ingredients of energy drinks are caffeine, guarana, ginseng, taurine and carnitine. For sensitive people, a small amount of caffeine could cause headaches, insomnia, anxiety, rapid heartbeat, increased blood pressure, irritability, indigestion and nervousness. Associated effects of guarana include weight loss, pain relief and memory enhancement.
