ABSTRACT
The article reports on a trend toward single-gender public schools in the U.S., as represented by the Cleveland, Ohio school district's intent to open five such schools in 2007. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) says single-gender schools are discriminatory and is investigating the criteria for Cleveland's schools. The National Association for Single Sex Public Education notes that between 1995 and 2007 the number of districts with single-gender public schools grew from three to 262.
