ABSTRACT
The article offers insights on physician advertising in U.S. The author then evaluates several actual advertisements from orthopedic surgeons, based on the advertising ethics guide of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Physicians who advertise are protected by the United States Federal Trade Commission Act because it prohibits medical organizations from placing restrictions on their ads, but the commission also implements heavy penalties on physicians with deceptive advertisements.
