ABSTRACT
The article presents the author's response to ethical critiques of carbon offsetting, which some regard as analogous to the sale of indulgences to absolve one of the guilt of sin. The author argues, however, that purchasing carbon offsets rather than reducing one's own emissions is not a cop-out, because it's the total amount of atmospheric carbon dioxide that matters, not individual pollution points.
